As a mobile phone user who had experienced writing contents or typing with your laptop's or desktop's full Keyboard, one of the first things you'll miss each time you are typing on your mobile phone is the mobile phone Keyboard experience. But if you are using an Android phone, you may not totally miss your desktop Keyboard.
Yes. I mean it. Except for the size and perhaps, the space; all other features including the full Keyboard short-cuts, full Keyboard layout and everything else could be enjoyed on your Android phones as well.
Although, if you a regular mobile phone user that does only all the things the mobile phones are designed to do, things like calling, chatting, texting, browsing the internet, taking pictures and all sorts of things; you may not really buy the idea of using a full desktop Keyboard on your phone. But if you are like me, a kind of mobile phone user that thinks outside the box; one who thinks that any mobile phone is capable of doing more than what the majority uses it for, you may have once thought about having a full desktop Keyboard on your mobile phone.
Okay, let's look at this from the perspective of a blogger or a freelance writer that relies solely on their mobile phones for writing blog contents or writing articles for their clients, having a full desktop Keyboard on their mobile phones would not only save them time but also; that would improve their experience and even make them feel more comfortable writing on their mobile phones especially, if such persons were already used to the full desktop Keyboard layout.
Why Did I Feel the Need for A Full Desktop Keyboard on My Phone?
A few days ago, I was on transit, it was a journey of about seven hours straight. So, I decided to pull out my phone, plug my handfree and then listen to some music while I enjoy the ride.
Few minutes afterwards, I launched my Google Keep (a note and productivity app by Google) to see which blog posts I have completed and see if I can start any at that moment. Not surprisingly though, I still had some left to write so I started.
Of course, I was using an Android phone, my Samsung Galaxy S9. As is my habit, I timed myself, hoping to complete as many as three articles on that journey. After all, it was a seven hours journey! I'd complete three articles in just three hours on my PC.
But, however hard I tried, in that about seven hours journey, I could barely complete two articles. Boom! I was challenged.
Initially, I concluded that that pace had to do with the journey but eventually, I tried to repeat that challenge at the comfort of my home but the outcome was similar. Eventually, I concluded it was the mobile phone Keyboard thus, the genesis of another hunt.
In case you'd love to know, I was using GBoard's latest version on my phone. GBoard is believed to being the best Keyboard in terms of speed, responsiveness and comfortability with typing on Android devices.
In a nutshell, I began hunting for a full desktop Keyboard for mobile phone in the Google Play Store and I found a number of options but there was a particular one that amazed me; an Android Keyboard that displays in full desktop Keyboard layout and with support for all Windows full desktop Keyboard short-cuts.
I am talking about Hakka Keyboard.
My Experience with Hakka Keyboard Full Desktop Keyboard Layout on My Phone
If truth be told, I'd never had any experience of satisfaction that is close to the one I have with using the hakka Keyboard on my phone with any other mobile phone application.
The Keyboard is so lightweight, responsive and flexible. You can customize the Keyboard any how you want.
If you are using a big-screen Android phone, you can adjust the hakka Keyboard so that the full desktop Keyboard layout can fit well into your fingers. And if you are using smaller screen-size Android phone on the other hand, the height, width, padding and every other settings of the hakka Keyboard can be adjusted so that the full desktop Keyboard layout can again fit well into your screen.
Which Windows Full Desktop Keyboard Shortcuts Work on my Android?
As far as I can tell, all Windows full desktop Keyboard shortcuts work really fine across several applications currently installed on my phone except for Microsoft One-Note for Android. When using Microsoft One-Note for Android on my phone, I realised that the Ctrl + Z (to undo), Ctrl + Y (to redo) and a few other less commonly used shortcuts do not work.
Apart from the shortcuts issues with Microsoft One-Note for Android, everything else work excellently across all the applications currently installed on my phone.
Conclusion
Finally, even on my Android phone, I can type quite closely as fast as I can on my desktop and laptop PCs.
With that said, as much as I'd loved to, I would like to see something similar to this on my iPhone as well. If you are an iPhone user that know of a similar iPhone application that can give full desktop Keyboard experience a live on my iPhone, I would like to try it out even if it would mean jailbreaking my iPhone to get it done.
